White Wenge grows in the swampy forests of west and central Africa, where it is also called pale wenge. It comes from the same family as the darker wenge most folks know. The wood is paler, with a soft tan to light brown color and dark streaks that run through the grain. This board is milled to a 3/4 inch thickness and a 2 inch width, ready to cut and shape.
This is a hard, heavy wood with a coarse, open grain. It works well for small builds like inlay strips, box parts, trim, drawer fronts, and pen blanks cut from the board. The grain stays straight most of the time, so it planes and sands to a clean face. The look is bold once a finish brings out the dark lines.
