White Oak is one of the toughest woods you can put on a lathe, and that strength is what turners love about it. These blanks come milled to a clean 1.5″ by 1.5″ square, sized for pens, small handles, bottle stoppers, and short spindle work. The wood is dense and heavy, so it holds fine detail and crisp beads without chipping out.
- Size 1.5″ x 1.5″ square stock
- Solid White Oak hardwood
- Great for pen blanks, handles, and spindle turning
- Tight, ring-porous grain that turns clean
The grain is straight with long, open pores and the soft tan to light brown color you expect from oak. White Oak has those tiny ray flecks that show up when the blank is turned round, which gives each piece a bit of figure. Cut and shaped with sharp tools, these squares sand down tight and take a clear, smooth shine that makes the grain pop.
