Padauk is the wood people grab when they want bold color. Fresh cut, it is a bright orange-red that almost glows. Over time it settles to a deeper, warmer brown. The grain is fairly straight and a little coarse, but it sands smooth and takes a clear finish well. It is a hard, dense hardwood that stays stable and holds crisp edges and clean corners.
