Osage Orange starts out a bright yellow color when freshly cut. That bold tone is one of the first things people notice about this wood. It is one of the hardest and densest woods grown in North America, so it holds up to heavy use and lasts a long time.
This board measures 3/4 inch thick and 2 inches wide. The narrow size is handy for small builds like box parts, inlay strips, jig stock, and trim. The wood is heavy and tight grained, so it cuts clean and takes a smooth finish. Over time the yellow color shifts to a warm golden brown, which gives finished pieces a rich, aged look. The surface feels firm and hard under hand tools, and it sharpens up nicely with sanding.
