If you have spent time turning maple, cherry will feel like an old friend that just behaves better. These cherry bowl blanks are cut 2 inches thick, so you have real depth to shape a small bowl, a shallow dish, or a wide platter base. Cherry is a medium-hard wood with a tight, even grain. That means it cuts clean off the gouge and does not fight you the way some open-grain woods do.
New cherry starts out light pink to pale brown. As it ages and meets the light, it deepens into a warm reddish-brown that woodworkers love. Sand it up through the grits and the surface gets almost glassy with very little effort. A thin coat of oil makes that color pop.
- 2 inch thick bowl blank
- Sold as a single piece
- Solid American cherry hardwood
- Great for small bowls, dishes, and platter bases
The real magic of cherry is how it darkens and glows years after you turn it, so your finished bowl keeps getting better looking with age.
