Sand these boards smooth and the color jumps out at you. Canarywood starts a warm golden yellow and runs through with streaks of orange, red, and brown. The grain is mostly straight and takes a polish well, so a little oil or wax gives you a clean, glassy surface.

This set gives you two boards at 3/4 inch thick and 6 inch wide. That size is handy for box lids, cutting board strips, drawer fronts, small shelves, and jewelry boxes. The wood is hard and heavy, so it holds sharp edges and stands up to daily use. It cuts and sands clean with normal shop tools.

One thing to know. Canarywood deepens with age and light, so the yellow shifts toward a richer amber over time. That makes it fun to plan around. Set a board next to pale maple or holly and the bright color really shows, or lay it against dark walnut for a bold two-tone look in one project.
