Plain straight-grain walnut is nice, but burled figured walnut is a whole different world. The wood comes from the gnarled burl part of the walnut tree, so the grain twists and swirls in ways flat boards never do. Each one of these 5 pen blanks has its own wild pattern of dark and light streaks.

Each blank is cut to 3/4″ x 3/4″ x 5″, which is the right size for most pen kits and turning mandrels. You get 5 pieces in the pack, so you can turn a few pens or keep extras for practice. Walnut is hard and dense, so it cuts clean on the lathe and takes a smooth finish.
