Maple Turning Blanks for Sale

Maple is one of the hardest woods that grows in North America. That hardness is the main reason wood turners reach for it again and again. Our maple turning blanks are cut and dried so you can put them on the lathe and start making something right away.

What Maple Wood Is Like

Maple grows across the cool, northern parts of the country. The wood is pale. It can be near white or have a soft cream and light brown color. As it ages it warms up a little.

The grain is fine and close. Most boards run straight, but some pieces show curl, birdseye, or wavy figure that looks great once you cut into it. The wood is dense and heavy, so it holds fine detail well.

Turning Maple on the Lathe

Maple cuts clean when your tools are sharp. Because it is so hard, sharp gouges and scrapers make a big difference. You get crisp lines and very little tear out.

The tight grain means maple sands down smooth fast. Sharp edges stay sharp, so beads, coves, and thin walls hold their shape on the lathe.

What You Can Make

These blanks work for bowls, pens, spindles, and small turned gifts. The bigger blanks are good for bowl blanks and platters. The smaller ones make great pen blanks and handles.

Maple is also a favorite for cutting boards, mallets, tool handles, and kitchen items because it is strong and safe for food. It takes paint, dye, and stain well too, so you can keep it pale or color it any way you like.

Pick the Right Blank Size

We offer maple turning blanks in many sizes. Match the blank to your project so you waste less wood. A short, thick blank suits a bowl. A long, square blank suits a spindle or a pen.

When a maple piece comes off the lathe it feels cool and hard in your hand. A buffed finish glows with a soft, clean shine, and the smooth surface stays bright for years.
