Cherry Turning Blanks for Sale

Each cherry turning blank comes ready for the lathe. Pick the size you need for bowls, pens, or spindle work. We cut and sell them as single blanks so you can grab one or stock up on a few.

Where Cherry Wood Comes From

Cherry is a hardwood that grows across the eastern part of the United States. Black cherry trees grow tall and straight in the woods, which gives us long, clean lengths of wood to cut blanks from.

The wood we use is American black cherry. It is one of the most loved woods for turning and woodworking, and for good reason.

Color and Grain

Fresh cherry has a light pinkish tone. Over time it darkens to a warm reddish-brown, and that color only gets better with age and sun. The grain is straight and fine with a smooth, even look.

You may see small flecks, gum spots, or dark streaks in the wood. These marks are normal for cherry and add real character to a finished piece.

How Cherry Turns on the Lathe

Cherry is a medium-hard wood. It sits in the middle, harder than pine but softer than maple or oak. That makes it easy to cut and shape with sharp tools.

It turns clean and leaves a smooth surface right off the gouge. Cherry sands well and takes oil, wax, and other finishes nicely. Sharp tools help you skip tear-out on the end grain.

What You Can Make

Cherry is a great pick for bowls, plates, and platters. The reddish color looks warm on a finished bowl. It also works well for pens, bottle stoppers, spindles, table legs, and small carved pieces.

With each blank you get solid, kiln-dried wood that is ready to mount and turn. That means less waste, more usable wood, and a clean shape waiting inside every block.
